So, it’s been awhile… mainly due to a slight addiction with Starcraft 2 Multiplayer and Achievement whoring so I have a couple of updates today!
Thoughts on: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Demo (Xbox 360)
First: I finally got around to playing the new ‘Castlevania: Lords of Shadow’ demo. I have honestly never played any of the series myself (So have nothing to compare with in lore and direction that they have taken the series in) but within the first 5 minutes, I was awestruck. Now, I was impressed with the new SW:TFU2 demo in my most recent update; most likely because I’m a sci-fi geek and on reflection; I may have over-hyped SW:TFU2 a little bit as I was in a fantastic mood that day but Castlevania impressed me two fold over that. My jaw was close to dropping with the graphics, voice acting and cut scenes. I am even close to saying it is better than God of War 3… but will need to play the full game before I am willing to even contemplate it. If the game keeps the pace that the demo started off with. Then I look forward to it… mainly that and the fact that as soon as I heard Patrick Stewarts voice narrating the game, I relaxed and felt at home. Don’t let me down Patrick!
Thoughts on: God of War: Ghost of Sparta Demo (PSP)
Being a long time God of War fan. This game bored me. New weapons are nice. Enemies are pretty bland and boring. Quick Time Death scenes are tedious. I hated playing this game. I loved 1, 2, 3 and Chains of Olympus but this, even though it was also made by Ready at Dawn who also made chains of Olympus. It is just so boring. It feels like they just re-skinned CoO. The only way I would by the full version was if I found it in the bargain bin for under a fiver. Then it would still be not worth the value.
12/10/10 Thoughts on: The Force Unleashed 2 Demo (Xbox 360)
Wooo glowy... Whoosh, Whoosh, Whoosh, stabby, stabby, death... NEXT! *ahem*
So the 12/10/10 is here, as we can see from my last post, I have been excited for today as the new The Force Unleashed 2 demo has been released. I must say, I really have enjoyed it. The demo is pretty short so I can only judge from that but it seems LucasArts have taken all the things that worked from The Force Unleashed and binned what doesn’t. This is how a sequel is supposed to be… I’m looking at you Left4Dead 2.
I won’t spoil too much but the graphics are looking as gorgeous as ever; cut-scenes are beautifully rendered and looking awesome; the weather effects are suburb especially seeing Starkiller turn to ice (play to see!) and the few little gameplay additions are a welcome and fun break even for a demo.
Controls… now they are quite clunky at first and require some getting used to but they do feel right when you get comfortable with them, kind of like a new chair where you have to remake your ass groove. However the new Jedi Mind Trick (New Force Power) is a fun little thing, as you would expect (if you have seen the movies… otherwise, why are you reading this again?), the outcome is quite unpredictable from enemies attacking their comrades to them just jumping off a bridge and committing suicide. Either one is handy and fun to watch!
Not sure I like the new “Force Fury” mode though. I feel it’s an unnecessary addition to the game. Yeah, it may be useful at times; to get out of a tough pinch or for new players but it really seems like it’s been shoved into the game due to pretty much every other hack and slash game tends to have one now.
Even though it is only a demo, I really couldn’t see the Euphoria technology in effect as much as I could in the first game, glass shattered, and things bent and bulked but it didn’t seem as natural as the first game.
One thing that didn’t get old was the satisfying warm fuzzy feeling inside when seeing the limbs and heads of the storm troopers getting bounced around after you throw your lightsabers into a mass of them.
Small demo but does leave me wanting more. Whoosh whoosh... 08/10/10 Borderlands GOTY Edition Announced and Glowy Burney Light Pole of Doom!!
If you haven’t already played a copy of Borderlands yet then now is the best chance to as 2k Games are releasing 'Borderlands Game of the Year Edition'. Released over in the US on 12/10/10, It shouldn’t be much longer before we will get our hands on a copy of it.
The GOTY Edition includes the standard Borderlands game released last year and includes all 4 of the downloadable content packs (The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx and Claptrap's New Robot Revolution). And as a added bonus it has been rumoured that players who buy this edition will gain access to the 'Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club' which they will get a hold of exclusive items, including early access to the Duke Nukem Forever playable demo before it is publicly released!
If you haven’t played Borderlands there is more than enough reason to pick up this copy, my only advise is to play it multiplayer as I found it a little boring playing on my own.
Also speaking of the 12/10/10, LucasArts announced that they will be releasing a little taster of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 in the form of a demo on both PSN and Xbox Live. I loved the first game so much I will be waiting for the clock to hit 00:00 just so I can get my eager hands on this.
All that has been hinted in the demo is that you will follow Starkiller as he makes a get away from Lord (wheeze-alot) Dark Helmet... no... wait... sorry... Darth Vader whilst using dual lightsabers to toast things up on his way through Kamino.

only thing on my mind watching this trailer. I was amazed by the
level of detail to Columbus made my jaw drop. I didn't realise until
told that Infinite is a prequel to the Bioshock we know and love
(Edit: 50 odd years to be exact). There is a lot in the trailer that
gave me the feeling that somewhere, Andrew Ryan will (hopefully at
least) make an appearance providing that Columbia is set in the same
universe as Rapture but with such things such as the revolution that
is happening on Columbia; the Big Daddy esk enemies and the Plasmid
type abilities (now known as Vigors). The similarities are very close
and I would honestly be surprised if he doesn't show up (even if it is) as a
cameo by the end of the game to signify something like Columbia is
the reason why he creates Rapture so the people can be free. Safe to
say; I am highly eager to get my hands on this and play but still
with a year and a half to wait at least... I guess I will just dream
for now.
